Ready to lead projects without leaving engineering behind?
You've spent years building your technical expertise.
You've worked your way up. Taken on more complex projects. Started becoming the person others come to when they need help solving a difficult problem.
Maybe you're already leading projects. Reviewing designs. Guiding other engineers. Working directly with clients.
And you're probably starting to think about what's next.
More influence?
Larger and more complex projects?
A greater role in developing the people around you?
But does that have to mean stepping further away from the technical work you actually enjoy? It doesn't have to.
J. Wyndham Prince is looking for an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to step into a senior technical leadership position: Associate Director – Technical.
It's a role designed for someone who wants to lead significant projects, influence technical outcomes and help develop other engineers, without becoming removed from the engineering itself.
About the role
This is technical leadership, not traditional people management.
You won't have a team of direct reports. Instead, you'll lead through your experience, technical judgement and ability to bring people with you.
You'll be embedded within JWP's Civil Engineering and Design/Drafting team, working alongside the engineers and designers delivering the projects you're responsible for.
You'll take ownership of significant civil engineering projects, helping drive them from start to finish while providing guidance and technical direction along the way.
You'll be close enough to the work to understand what's happening across each project. Reviewing plans.
Talking through technical challenges.
Helping guide the design. And stepping in when your experience is needed.
You'll also be the connection between the client and the internal team.
Understanding what the client needs.
Communicating that clearly. And helping translate those requirements into practical design outcomes.
Depending on the project, you might be sitting with a set of plans and marking them up. Reviewing a design before it goes out the door.
Helping an engineer work through a technical challenge.
Or sitting across the table from a client to discuss the next stage of their project.
It's practical, hands-on technical leadership, with a genuine mix of client coordination and internal engineering and design leadership.
Roughly 50/50.
About you
You've built a strong career in civil engineering.
You're technically capable.
But you've also developed the confidence to take ownership.
You can run a project. Drive it forward. Make decisions.
And know when to step in and when to give others the opportunity to find their own solution.
You're comfortable sitting in meetings and communicating technical information in a way that makes sense to different people.
And you genuinely enjoy helping other engineers develop.
Not through formal performance management.
But through the everyday conversations, feedback and guidance that come from working alongside someone with experience.
You might currently be a Principal Civil Engineer/Design Engineer taking a step up.
Or working in another senior technical civil engineering position.
What's most important is your experience.
You'll ideally bring:
Around 10+ years of senior civil engineering experience.
A strong technical background in civil design, land development and/or infrastructure.
Experience guiding and reviewing the work of other engineers or designers.
Confidence managing client and stakeholder relationships.
The ability to independently run and drive projects.
Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.
A genuine interest in mentoring and developing others.
A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Your new organisation
J. Wyndham Prince has spent more than 40 years delivering high-quality land development and civil infrastructure projects across Greater Sydney.
Their multidisciplinary team brings together experienced professionals across engineering and related disciplines, working collaboratively to deliver practical outcomes for clients.
They're not looking for someone to simply sit above the team.
They're looking for someone who wants to get involved.
Share their experience.
Help others develop.
And play an important role in delivering great projects.
Based in their Penrith CBD office, you'll also enjoy modern facilities, plenty of parking, cafés, public transport and shopping all within walking distance.
Oh... and who doesn't love a 3pm finish every Friday?
